New Zealand Sauvignon that nearly every vintage clocks up Golds, and Hunter’s was one of the first on the world stage. This wine combines finesse with exuberant passion fruit ripeness and brilliant citrusy minerality. And 2019 was a 5-Star vintage.
Mention Sauvignon Blanc to any wine lover and Marlborough is sure to come up – yet 30 years ago this remote region in New Zealand was known only for barley and sheep. The success story of Marlborough is one of the most remarkable in modern times, and one in which Hunter’s can claim to have played a major part. Today the estate is run by Jane Hunter, herself a trained viticulturist, and she has a string of accolades for her excellent work, including an OBE and Companion of the NZ Order of Merit for services to viticulture. This classic Kiwi Sauvignon is made now by Jane’s nephew James Macdonald. Displaying passion fruit, crisp apple and citrus aromas, it’s delicious on its own and great with oysters, grilled white fish or spicy Thai dishes.
